The concept of heat-soaking is defined as the transfer of potential on-site breakage of tempered glass to breakage in the factory under a controlled process of accelerating the inversion of nickel sulphide stones to their low temperature phase. SSG has an oven that can soak a glass of maximum size 5700mm in height by 2438mm in width and which conform to EN 14179-1.
While heat-soaking does not guarantee that breakage will be completely eliminated in the installed tempered glass; it is an invaluable test for identifying batches that have a high incidence of nickel sulphide inclusions.
